"Arts & Crafts"

Includes art, creative writing, knitting, & quilting

Updated January 13, 2010

Jan Young's ART GROUP will meet at Good News Church (4747 Highway 98) on Tuesday mornings from 9:00 to Noon beginning Jan. 5, 2010.    This is not art lessons nor teaching, just an art workshop where artists of all levels join together to work.  There are some demonstrations of techniques, media, and style.

Needed:  Artists or want-to-be artists for an additional art workshop on Thursdays at 12:30 - 3:30 at the Enclave Condominium.             Beginning watercolor instruction will be available for those interested.  Call Bonnie Schwichtenberg at 650-5255 if  interested.

CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP  Contact: Bob Algie  837-3118   bob_algie@yahoo.com   or Tom Mahar  267-5441    tkmahar@aol.com

The workshop centers on the task of writing a short story, essay or memoir.  Many of the techniques mastered in the workshop can easily apply to other forms of writing.  The program is designed to meet the needs of inexperienced and experienced writers.  Specifically, the workshop strives to help writers overcome writer's block, develop ideas into completed articles and to create excitement and suspense

The group meets each Wednesday at Beach Retreat at 2:00 p.m. and concludes at 4:00 p.m.

Program participants discuss and critique the work of fellow participants.   The work is based on a series of prompts provided by the workshop.  In addition, during the first six weeks participants submit an opening line drawn from a separate prompt.   The participants vote on Best Story and Best Opening Line each week.

Successful participants will have access to the Internet and to a printer.  All participants exchange information with one another throughout the program.
