"Creative Writing Group" Contact Chairman: Contact: Bob Algie 276-4281 bob_algie@yahoo.com or Tom Mahar 267-5441 tkmahar@aol.com Begins: Wed. Jan. 4
The workshop centers on the task of writing a short story, essay or memoir. Many of the techniques mastered in the workshop can easily apply to other forms of writing. The program is designed to meet the needs of inexperienced and experienced writers. Specifically, the workshop strives to help writers overcome writer's block, develop ideas into completed articles and to create excitement and suspense Program participants discuss and critique the work of fellow participants. The work is based on a series of prompts provided by the workshop. In addition, during the first six weeks participants submit an opening line drawn from a separate prompt. The participants vote on Best Story and Best Opening Line each week. Successful participants will have access to the Internet and to a printer. All participants exchange information with one another throughout the program.
We have a Winner .......................................
We have a winner of the Creative Writers
Workshop "Best Story" award. It is Rebecca Williams, a retired English
teacher from Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
Her memoir, entitled
Smooth Operator, is an amusing account of her Aunt Hilda, “the Queen of
the South Central Bell switchboard” and Hilda’s husband, Raymond. The
two sparred over the design of a tombstone that will eventually grace
their graves. The account allows a peek into how retirement sometimes
forever alters perspective. (Tom Mahar reporting)
