Beach Pole Walking
- As an organized exercise activity. Anyone
interested???????
We have a snowbird member, Linda Simmons, who would
like to organize a group. She will be at registrations with a
signup.
Read her description below :
I am soon to be a
certified personal trainer with ACE, American Council of
Exercise. I like walking the beach with poles and sharing the
experience with others who are interested. I have a favorite
pole made in Norway, very light weight, one piece with strap to
take the pressure off your hands, wrists and fingers. Go to
www.skiwalking.com
to order
giving code stayfitfirst for
free
shipping.
"Nordic walking burns up to 40% more calories than walking
without poles. Nordic walking works the arms, shoulders and abs,
improves the posture. Provides low impact benefits of walking,
while reducing knee and joint strain, burning more
calories, working the upper body, increasing oxygen consumption
and providing a more effective aerobic workout. Pete shares a
story from Michelle who suffered from MS, using a scooter to
walking with poles and loving it." I've taken this information
from skiwalking.com you can
read more about pole walking on Pete's site.
We'll learn to
improve our posture. Before walk warm up exercises-cool down
exercises after the walk. We'll walk 40 minutes + 20 minutes for
discussion/warmup/cooldown. Pete's poles are extremely light and
the strap makes walking very comfortable. I use Pete's poles
have used others but in my opinion his are the best. This
is my preferred pole for you to use.
We will meet in the parking lot at Captain Dave's On The
Gulf, located Old 98 Hwy. 10am-3 days a week beginning -
Wednesday February 1st, 2012.
Wear comfortable supportive shoes that you don't mind getting
sand in. Bring a bottle of water and snack if you need to and
bring your walkman if you like, it makes your walking enjoyable.
I'm a casual person and love to teach. Come for the fun.Walking
on 4 legs is so much easier than 2.
Anyone interested in going out for a walk with me before
"Beach Pole Walking" group begins in February call me at
654-7882 and my email address is:
lyndamcsim@gmail.com
This year is free, next year I will be charging a fee per
walk.
