WALTON COUNTY RECYCLES USING
BLUE BAGS
Blue bags can be obtained at the Coastal branch
of the Walton County Library if you just want a few. If you want a box
of 100, you will need to go to the Department of Roads located in the same
area. You go east on 98 to 331 and turn left. Go to the government buildings
and turn left on Coastal Center Blvd. Just before pulling into the parking
lot of the library, turn left onto Greenway Terrace. Go past the Walton
County Health Department and over the bridge and then turn right on
Community Way Road. On the right, turn into the Department of Roads. The
blue bags allow you to mix recyclables; but if you don't have the
opportunity to use them. you can take your plastic, newspapers or glass to
the recycle trailer on Miramar Beach Road. This is the same road as the Post
Office and Embassy Suites between Scenic 98 and new 98. There are also
trailers on 30A at the Butler Elementary School.

Habitat
for Humanity of Walton County
We are very proud of the strides that
Habitat for Humanity has made in recent years. We are currently
constructing our 20th home in Walton County!!! It could not be done without
volunteer help and financial support from organizations such as the Walton
County Snowbirds. Please keep an ear out for our “Dine-for-Habitat”
fundraising events in which we partner with local restaurants to raise funds
for the organization. All you have to do is show up with a hearty appetite
and a portion of the proceeds goes to support HFH.
Thank-you again for your support, and
feel free to contact me at any time. We look forward to seeing Snowbirds on
the jobsites or in the ReStore.

Heritage
Museum Calling Snowbird Volunteers
Calling all snowbirds!
Make this season on the Emerald Coast a memorable one and volunteer at the
Heritage Museum of Northwest Florida. Use your talent, skill and creativity
to benefit the community and help preserve local history. Volunteer and
gain knowledge, develop new skills, contribute to the cultural and
educational life of residents and visitors.
Training is available in
all areas of museum operations including tours, historical research,
archives, data entry, the Heritage Museum Shop & Bookstore, special events
and more.
The Heritage Museum is
located at 115 Westview Avenue in Valparaiso. For more information, call
(850) 678-2615 or visit the website at
www.heritage-museum.org. Museum hours are Tuesday- Saturday, 10 a.m.
until 4 p.m.
A great opportunity for
volunteering exists at Eden Gardens State Park at Point Washington...Santa
Rosa Beach, FL. Every Tuesday, the Friends of Eden
Volunteers meet at the park for gardening purposes to enhance the beauty of
the park. They usually get together about 9 a.m. and weed, plant & rake or
trim for several hours, then share lunch with the other volunteers, if
desired. Snowbirds have contributed greatly in this manner in the past (and
continue to do so), but with our large annual turnover I am sure quite a few
Snowbirds are not aware of the beautiful park and this opportunity to serve
the community.
School of the Soldier Civil War Re-enactment will be held
at Eden Gardens State Park on Sunday, January 24, 2010 from 9:00 AM to 2:00
PM. The 7th Vermont Company D and Walton Guard will re-enact historic
Civil War skirmishes. You can view drills, rifle and light
infantry tactics, camp life and join a ladies tea.
With the Camellia Fest coming up shortly and azalea's
promising to bloom before we go north, the Park remains a wonderful place to
spend some peaceful time.
Eden State Gardens is located off County Road 395 north of
U.S. 98. 395 south (the other way) goes to Seagrove. The new entrance to the
park is a left before getting into village of Point Washington.
Any questions can be addressed to Jane Angner, a Friends
of Eden board member and chairperson of the gardening committee. Her phone
number is 654-5783, and E-mail is
angner@embarqmail.com
